StormSack™ Geotextile Catch Basin Insert Stormwater Filter

Geotextile Catch Basin Insert

Fabco’s Most Popular Type of Stormwater Filter

While there are two distinct product lines, our Geotextile Catch Basin Insert Systems StormSack Plus and StormSack BMP, offer different features and benefits, with both using a woven geotextile filter bag to treat the water.

This Geotextile bag provides high treatment flow rates while capturing fine sediments and other solids contained in stormwater runoff. By adding a simple oil absorbent boom to either model you can expand the functionality of this high flow filter to include oil compounds making it well suited to parking lots, vehicle maintenance yards and trash transfer sites.

StormSack is excellent as a prefilter providing an initial filtering step right at the storm drain inlet and before the water is sent to other Stormwater BMP designs such as detention ponds, infiltration areas or other proprietary filter devices. StormSack is easy to install and can be implemented quickly without new construction.

StormSack™ BMP – Rectangular

Geotextile Catch Basin Inlet Curb Filters

The Fabco StormSack BMP filter unit is a new generation of StormSack insert engineered to deliver high performance filter treatment, strength, and durability at a cost-effective price.

The StormSack BMP uses Fabco’s proven Geotextile fabric in a simple, unlined filter bag that features our innovative “Loop and Rod” support system. With this support system, the filter sack is suspended below the metal frame by a series of looped straps that pass-through slots in the support frame.  A stainless-steel rod is then “threaded” through each loop preventing the straps from pulling through the frame while holding the filter bag and providing a secure and evenly distributed working load.  And, the loop strap system can be used to lift the unit out of the drain without connecting or any contact to the metal frame eliminating high stress points and possible damage.

Features and Benefits of StormSack BMP

Geotextile Catch Basin Insert Filter System

  • Quality, high strength, non-corrosive, aluminum frame features 2-in of flange adjustability (X&Y) to accommodate most drain irregularities. The frame can be configured to fit Drop inlet and Combination (Grate/Rear Curb box) style inlets* and can be further modified to meet application requirements.
  • High strength, woven Geotextile filter sack is designed to collect solid materials, sediments, trash, and other debris while maintaining high flow rates
  • Unique, Loop and Rod support (LRS) system provides a simple, virtually fail-safe method of holding the filter bag under the frame. The LRS system facilitates simple bag replacement and can be used to lift the system out of the drain during maintenance activities.
  • Every StormSack BMP insert is provided with a bypass out port below the frame
  • No special tools are required for installation or maintenance
  • Optional oil booms available

StormSack Plus – Rectangular Geotextile Catch Basin Inlet Filter System

The StormSack Plus was Fabco’s first insert to use a filter bag and is still the most advanced model in the StormSack product line. Thousands of units have been installed from Maine to California and as far away as Australia during its time on the market.

The StormSack Plus is easily distinguishable from other inserts due to its heavy-duty construction and unique filter bag. Some of the unique an innovative feature available on the StormSack Plus:

    • Fabco specified a custom aluminum extrusion to create one of the strongest frames available on any insert product. A standard frame with the common drop inlet flange support kit is nearly 8” tall and weighs over 40 pounds in the 2’x4’ size.
    • A Patented Dove Tail adjustment system is built onto the frame and provides an easy to use attachment point for Fabco’s various support flange designs – No tools are required and up to 5” of adjustment (X&Y) is provided by this Dove tail system. This gives the StormSack Plus extreme versatility for adapting to various Grate/Frame designs and potentia obstacles down below the frame that could impede the installation of the StormSack.
    • The frame also incorporates a vertical deflector that extends down past the bypass ports where it functions like an oil/water separator to help keep trapped floatable material in the filter during bypass operation.
    • A high efficiency oil boom provided on all StormSack Plus inserts mounts easily to the deflector where it is positioned to intercept the inflowing water.
    • Large, corner brackets are riveted inside the frame to stiffen the structure and to act as lifting points if the insert needs to be removed from the drain inlet
    • Stainless Steel hanger are provided on the frame to support the filter bag
    • The replaceable filter bag is attached to the frame using corrosion resistant metal clips.
    • The StormSack Plus features a dual layer filter bag.
      • For filtration and retention of sediments, debris and solid materials, the first layer is fabricated from the same Geotextile material used on the StormSack BMP. Excellent treatment at High flows.
      • To protect this filtering layer from damage during maintenance and to facilitate the use of commercial vactor trucks during cleanouts, a second Heavy Duty mesh layer covers the inside of the filter bag. This significantly extends the life of the filter bag

Features and Benefits of StormSack Plus

    • The Heavy-duty frame is one of the strongest available and has been used on sizes up to 4’x4’
    • The Adjustable Dove Tail mounting system can be used with various support flanges and provides 2.5” of (X&Y) adjustment
    • The Dual layer filter bag provides a filtering layer of woven Geotextile material, similar to the StormSack BMP, and a secondary protective layer of HD mesh to protect the Geotextile filter fabric from cuts and rips during maintenance activities
    • A Vertical deflector incorporated into the frame protects the StormSack bypass ports and helps retain trash during extreme rain events
    • A user replaceable oil boom is included with each StormSack Plus insert
