When it comes to protecting our waterways, the choice of stormwater filtration systems matters more than many realize. While some companies rely on plastic or fiberglass catch basin inserts, Fabco Industries takes a different approach. Thanks to nearly 30 years of experience, we’ve learned that metal units are always the way to go, and that’s why we’re always engineering robust metal solutions like StormBasin, StormSack, and ScreenBox (or newer solutions, like the StormRing and StormHood) that deliver superior performance and longevity when compared to other units on the market.

Here’s why metal makes the difference:

Solution Durability and Microplastic Concerns

Plastic units can crack, or degrade under heavy traffic loads and extreme weather ranging from flooding to wildfires. Not only does this contribute to the units potentially failing, but it also adds to the constantly growing microplastics problem we’re currently facing. Fabco’s metal inserts are built to withstand harsh conditions, ensuring structural integrity year after year.

Better Fit and Function

With that lessened durability, plastic and fiberglass frames tend to be more prone to flexing or distorting, affecting how they fit in the catch basin. Nothing beats metal for strength, which helps our adjustable frames maintain precise tolerances, creating a secure fit in catch basins and ensuring the unit doesn’t go anywhere. This minimizes bypass and maximizes pollutant capture, making future maintenance a breeze. And thanks to our Lift, Measure, Drop install method, getting the unit in the catch basin has never been easier!

Long Term Sustainability and Lifecycle Value

Not only are our metal units more durable (whether aluminum or stainless steel), they’re also recyclable at the end of their service life. Plastic and fiberglass alternatives often end up in landfills, adding to environmental concerns, especially in regard to the previously mentioned microplastics.

And on the subject of microplastics, pictured to the right is our StormBasin, a full metal capture device with cartridge filters to target specific pollutants. Click here to learn more about our microplastic cartridge filters!

Performance Under Pressure

From high-flow events to heavy sediment loads, Fabco’s designs are engineered for real-world challenges. Metal construction means these systems won’t collapse or fail when it matters most during heavy storms and floods.
