NYCDEP ROW ScreenBox Catch Basin Filter Insert
Municipal Green Infrastructure Solution
After a successful collaboration with ACF Environmental and the Philadelphia Water Department in 2018 with a goal of finding a solution that could adapt and meet the performance goals of the city’s Clean Water Initiative, Fabco Industries was able to take on the challenge of creating a green infrastructure solution for the NYCDEP. With the help of engineering firms AKRF and Arcadis (who also worked on the PWD project), we were able to design our NYCDEP ROW ScreenBox and Pipe Screens to fit the specific needs of the NYCDEP Green Infrastructure Program.
Fabco’s NYCDEP ROW Inlet Protection Screenbox Catch Basin Filter Insert
Fabco’s NYCDEP R.O.W. Screenbox is a grate and curb inlet skimmer box- a retrofit filter insert for NYCDEP’s new and existing R.O.W. Infiltration Basins.
It is a new addition to the industry leading line of stormwater catch basin filter products manufactured by Fabco, one designed specifically to meet the needs of the New York City Department of Environmental Protection. This prefilter design traps sediment and debris, entering the stormwater system and allows water that is free from debris to pass through. The R.O.W. Screenbox can be used for many typical applications, such as parking lots, commercial properties, roadway surfaces as well as stormwater “hot spots,” such as transportation centers, vehicle maintenance facilities, gas stations/fueling locations and industrial applications.
Durable Inlet Skimmer Design Enhances BMP ROI
The R.O.W. Screenbox frame is manufactured from high-strength 5000 series aluminum, making it resistant to cracking, abrasion, and capable of withstanding severe temperature swings. The R.O.W. Screenbox includes quality perforated screens for prolonged debris capture and a hinged rear flange which allows the unit to fit into tighter spaces before opening and treating a wider flow area. Utilization of this product captures debris at the source, preventing drainage issues down the line in the filtration process. The R.O.W. Screenbox is designed to be easily accessed for cleaning/maintenance, which makes keeping up with your stormwater simple and cost-effective.

How Fabco’s NYCDEP ROW ScreenBox™
Stormwater Catch Basin Filter Functions
When stormwater enters the Fabco ScreenBox, the water flows down through the protected bypass hood into the lower filtration chamber.
As the water drops down into the chamber and is filtered through the screens, the sediment and debris collected is stored in a dry state. This reduces potential septic conditions while minimizing the material weight that must be removed during clean outs – saving space and disposal costs.
After many storm events, the collected debris can weigh up to several hundreds of pounds. Clean outs can be done manually by lifting the entire unit from the drain and dumping or more rapidly by using a commercial vacuum truck.
